Tableau Stories

A story in Tableau is a sequence of worksheets or dashboards, presented one after another, used to walk viewers through a narrative or an analytical argument step by step.

Creating a Story

Story menu -> New Story
Drag a sheet or dashboard onto the first "story point"
Click "New point" or duplicate to add the next step

Story Points

Each story point can show a different sheet, or the same sheet with different filters, zoom, or annotations applied - letting a single dashboard illustrate several stages of an analysis.

Adding Captions

Every story point includes a text caption at the top, used to explain what the viewer is looking at and why it matters at that stage of the narrative.

Navigation

Viewers can move through a story using the navigator arrows or by clicking directly on a specific story point's caption - similar to flipping through slides in a presentation.

Stories work best when each point makes a single, clear point - resist the urge to cram multiple insights into one story point, since the format is designed for a guided, step-by-step narrative.
