Sprint Reports and Burndown Charts
Jira's built-in reports give teams visibility into how a sprint is progressing and how the team has performed over time. Two of the most commonly used reports are the sprint report and the burndown chart.
Reading a Burndown Chart
A burndown chart plots remaining work against time for the current sprint. The ideal line shows a steady decline toward zero by the sprint's end, while the actual line reflects real progress. When the actual line sits above the ideal line, it's an early signal that the sprint may not finish as planned.
Using the Sprint Report
The sprint report summarizes what was completed, what was not completed, and what was added or removed after the sprint started. Reviewing this report during a sprint retrospective helps teams understand estimation accuracy and plan more realistic sprints going forward.
Why These Reports Matter
- Burndown charts show daily progress against the sprint goal
- Sprint reports summarize completed vs. incomplete work
- Both reports help teams catch delays before the sprint ends
- Historical data improves future sprint estimation
- Reports support honest, data-driven sprint retrospectives
