Software testing is the practice of establishing, with proof, that an application serves its users
and its owners as intended, and of finding the points where it fails before a visitor or customer is
let down.
Consider a booking app used for darshan slots and ghat boat rides in Varanasi. A tester verifies that
a time slot never sells more passes than its capacity, that one ID cannot book the same slot twice,
that a boat ticket expires after the ride window, that refunds follow the cancellation rules, that
elderly and differently-abled quotas are honoured, and that the app keeps working at dawn on
Mahashivratri or Dev Deepawali when traffic is many times normal.
The discipline has steps. Identify which failures would hurt devotees, customers or the operator
most. Write cases precise enough for anyone to repeat. Execute them manually or by script. When one
fails, attach the evidence (screenshot, data, steps) and verify the fix later. Testing takes place
at unit, integration, system and acceptance levels; consumer apps also need performance, security,
compatibility and usability testing. In Agile teams it runs every sprint, with automated regression
repeating on each change.
