What is Software Testing?

Software testing is the process of checking that an application works as intended, meets its requirements and is safe and reliable for users before it is released. Testers design test cases, run them manually or with automation tools, report defects and confirm fixes.

Types of Software Testing You Will Practise

Testing is grouped by what it checks and how it is run. In this course you practise each of the following on real applications rather than only reading about them.

Functional testing — each feature works as the requirement says (Modules 1–2)
Smoke & sanity — a new build is stable enough to test further (Module 2)

What Does a Software Tester (QA Engineer) Do?

A software tester reads requirements, designs test scenarios and test cases, executes them, logs defects in a tool such as Jira and verifies fixes. An automation test engineer goes further: they write scripts in Selenium or Playwright, automate API checks, build reusable frameworks and plug tests into CI/CD pipelines so they run on every build.

A typical week mixes sprint meetings, test design, script maintenance, defect triage and reporting results to developers and product managers.
