JSON Formatter: Beautify, Minify and Validate JSON

Clean up messy JSON and find the exact line of any error.

  • 🧹 Format or minify
  • 📍 Line and column on errors
  • 🔒 Nothing is uploaded

How to use the JSON Formatter

  1. 1. Paste your JSONDrop in an API response, config file or any JSON text.
  2. 2. Choose an actionFormat it, minify it or only validate it.
  3. 3. Copy the resultCopy or download the clean JSON, or fix the error we point to.

What this JSON formatter does

API responses usually arrive as one long line, which is hard to read. Formatting adds line breaks and indents so you can see the structure. Minifying does the opposite: it removes every extra space, which makes the file smaller for sending over a network. Validating checks that the text follows the JSON rules, without changing it.

Here is a small example. This input:

{"name":"Asha","marks":[91,87.5]}

becomes this when formatted with 2 spaces:

{
  "name": "Asha",
  "marks": [
    91,
    87.5
  ]
}

Large whole numbers stay exactly as you typed them. Many online formatters pass your text through JSON.parse, which rounds very long IDs. This one keeps the digits untouched.

Common JSON errors and how to fix them

  • Trailing comma. JSON does not allow a comma before a closing bracket, even though JavaScript does.
  • Single quotes. Keys and text must use double quotes.
  • Keys without quotes. {name: 1} is valid JavaScript but not valid JSON.
  • Comments. Standard JSON has no comments, so remove them first.

Your text is processed in your browser and is never sent to a server, so it is safe for private config files too. Need the data in a spreadsheet? Use the JSON to CSV converter. Inspecting a login token? Try the JWT decoder.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON uploaded anywhere?

No. Formatting and validation happen inside your browser. The JSON you paste is not sent to Uncodemy or anyone else.

Does it show where the error is?

Yes. You get the line number, the column number and a plain-English reason, such as a trailing comma or a missing quote.

Will big numbers lose precision?

No. The tool works on your original text, so long IDs and decimals stay exactly as written.

Is this tool free?

Yes, it is free. We ask for your name and WhatsApp number once when you see your result, and other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
