URL Encoder & Decoder: Fix Spaces and Symbols in Links

Percent-encode text for links, or decode a messy URL to read it.

  • 🔗 Value or full URL mode
  • 🔎 Query parameters listed
  • 🌐 Hindi and Unicode safe

How to use the URL Encoder & Decoder

  1. 1. Paste your textAdd a value, a full URL, or an encoded link.
  2. 2. Pick a modeEncode a value, encode a full URL, or decode.
  3. 3. Copy the resultUse the output in your link, code or API call.

Why URLs need encoding

A URL can only carry a limited set of characters. Others, like spaces, ₹ or Hindi letters, are written as a % followed by hex digits. Symbols such as &, = and ? have jobs inside a URL, so they must be encoded when they are part of your data.

Here is an example. To send the search text data & python as a value, it must become data%20%26%20python. Without encoding, the & would cut your value in two and start a new parameter.

Value mode or full URL mode?

  • Encode a value is for one piece of a URL, such as a search term. It encodes / ? & = too. This matches JavaScript's encodeURIComponent.
  • Encode a full URL is for a complete address. It keeps / ? & = so the link still works. This matches encodeURI.
  • Decode turns % codes back into readable text, and lists the query parameters when it finds them.

Tick the + option for HTML form data, where spaces travel as plus signs.

If decoding fails, the text has a broken % code, such as a lone % that is not followed by two hex digits. Everything runs in your browser, so links with private details are not sent anywhere. For data that must pass through a link, the Base64 encoder may suit better. To test a URL pattern, use the regex tester.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between %20 and +?

Both can mean a space. %20 works everywhere in a URL, while + means a space only in form-style query strings. Tick the + option if you need that style.

Why did decoding fail?

The text has a % that is not followed by a valid code. Fix or remove that % and try again.

Is my URL sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Is this tool free?

Yes, it is free. We ask for your name and WhatsApp number once when you see your result, and other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
