Viva tips from examiners
How long should a viva answer be?
Two or three sentences: the definition, one example, and one point of comparison or use. Examiners stop you when they've heard enough. A long, memorised paragraph invites a harder follow-up.
What if I don't know the answer?
Say what you do know about the topic and connect it to something nearby. "I'm not sure about BCNF, but 3NF removes transitive dependencies, and BCNF is stricter than that" scores far better than silence.
Which questions are asked most?
Definitions and differences ("process vs thread", "TCP vs UDP") come up in almost every viva. The questions marked "Tricky" here are the follow-ups examiners use to separate memorised answers from understanding.
Are viva questions asked in job interviews too?
Yes. Core subjects like DBMS, OS, Computer Networks, OOP and DSA make up most technical rounds for fresher roles at service companies. The questions marked "Interview" are the ones that most often reappear.
