How the last working day is calculated
Notice periods usually run in calendar days, so weekends and holidays count. The tool uses last working day = resignation date + notice days. If your company counts the resignation date as day 1, tick that box and the result moves one day earlier.
Example: you resign on Friday, 1 January 2027 with a 60-day notice period. Your last working day is Tuesday, 2 March 2027. With the day 1 box ticked, it is Monday, 1 March 2027.
A notice buyout means paying the company for days you do not serve: buyout = monthly salary ÷ days in a month × days bought out. In the same example, buying out 30 days on ₹50,000 a month costs ₹50,000, and your last working day becomes Sunday, 31 January 2027.
If a result falls on a weekend, the tool says so, because your actual last day in office may be different.
Before you resign or buy out your notice
- Read your contract. It says how notice is counted, whether buyout is allowed and if it is based on basic or gross pay. Enter the matching salary.
- Get it in writing. Ask HR to confirm your last working day, and keep the email.
- Check leave. Some companies let you adjust earned leave against notice, while others do not.
- Ask the new employer. Some will pay your buyout or reimburse it. Ask for this in your offer letter.
- Check dues. Your final settlement can include salary, leave encashment and gratuity. Buyout is usually deducted there.
- Get your papers. Ask for relieving and experience letters, as your next employer may need them.
Reached 5 years with your employer? Check the gratuity calculator first, as a few weeks can matter. The 6-month rounding rule can add a whole year too. Comparing the new offer? Use the salary hike calculator. Moving your PF? The EPF calculator shows what the balance can grow to.
Frequently asked questions
Does the notice period include weekends?
Usually yes, as most contracts use calendar days. If yours counts working days only, the real date will be later, so check with HR.
Is the resignation date counted?
It differs by company. The tool does not count it by default. Tick the box if your company treats it as day 1.
Is notice buyout based on basic or gross pay?
It depends on your contract. Enter the salary figure your contract uses, and the tool does the rest.
Is this tool free?
Yes. It is free, and we ask for your name and WhatsApp number once when you view your result. All other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
