  • 📮 Scheme rules built in
  • 📈 Quarterly compounding
  • ✏️ Editable rate

How to use the Post Office RD Calculator

  1. 1. Enter your monthly depositStart at ₹100 and go up in multiples of ₹10.
  2. 2. Confirm the rateThe default is 6.7%. Check it against India Post, then edit if needed.
  3. 3. See your maturityGet the final amount and the running value at each year.

Rate used here: please confirm it

The default is 6.7% a year for the Oct-Dec 2026 quarter. Small savings rates change quarterly. This particular rate was not reconfirmed for this quarter, so check it at your post office or on the India Post website before you decide. The rate box is yours to change.

How the 5-year maturity is calculated

The Post Office RD runs for 60 monthly instalments, with interest compounded every quarter. Each instalment grows for the months it stays in the account. The first stays 60 months and the last stays 1 month:

Maturity = sum of P × (1 + r/4)^(k/3), for k from 1 to 60.

Worked example: ₹10,000 a month at 6.7%. You deposit ₹6,00,000. The account matures at ₹7,13,658, so ₹1,13,658 is interest. This matches the ₹7,136.58 maturity shown for ₹100 a month at 6.7% in published Post Office rate tables, scaled up 100 times.

Scheme rules to know

  • Late payment. A default fee applies on a missed instalment, ₹1 for every ₹100 of deposit per month. Pay on time to match this calculator.
  • Early closure. Allowed after 3 years, but interest then drops to the Post Office savings rate.
  • Loan. After 12 instalments you can borrow up to 50% of your balance.
  • Extension. You can continue for 5 more years at maturity.
  • Tax. Interest is taxable.
