How to use the Resignation Letter Generator

  1. 1. Add your detailsEnter your name, role, company and last working day.
  2. 2. Pick a toneChoose formal, warm or short, and whether to mention a reason.
  3. 3. Edit and sendChange anything you like, then copy or download it.

What a good resignation letter includes

A resignation letter is a record, not a place to explain everything. It should state that you are resigning, name your position, give your last working day and offer help with the handover. A word of thanks is a good way to end.

Keep it short and polite, even if you are leaving an unhappy job. This letter may stay on your file, and the people you work with today could be references or colleagues again later. If you have complaints, raise them in an exit interview instead.

Before you hand it in

  • Check your notice period in your offer letter or employment contract.
  • Speak to your manager first. It is more respectful than letting them find out by email.
  • Confirm your new offer in writing before you resign, if you have one.
  • Save personal files and contacts, following company policy.
  • Ask about full and final settlement, leave balance and your experience letter.

Rules on notice and settlement depend on your contract and company policy, so read those carefully. This tool gives a general letter and not legal advice.

Choosing the right tone

Formal suits most offices and is the safe default. Warm works if you have a good relationship with your manager and want to say thanks. Short gives only the essentials, which suits an email or a company with a set process.

You do not have to give a reason, so the tool lets you leave it out. After generating, you can edit the letter right on the page. What you copy or download includes your edits.

Next, prepare for what comes after. Create a cover letter and practise with the interview question generator. Your HR team can use the experience letter generator to draft your letter.
