What this word counter measures
The tool counts words, characters with and without spaces, sentences and paragraphs. It also works out the average sentence length, which is a quick way to spot writing that has become hard to follow. If most of your sentences run long, try splitting a few of them.
Hindi and other Indian languages are handled properly. Devanagari matras stay attached to their letters, so a Hindi word is counted as one word, and the Hindi full stop (।) ends a sentence just like an English one.
How reading time and keywords are worked out
Reading time assumes 200 words a minute and speaking time assumes 130 words a minute. Both are common averages and not exact figures, so a technical topic or a slow speaker will take longer. Use speaking time when you are preparing a presentation, a video script or an interview introduction.
The keyword table lists the words you use most often and leaves out filler words such as the, and, का and की. This helps you check two things: whether your main topic really appears in the text, and whether you are repeating one word too much.
Where a word count matters
- College work. Assignments and statements of purpose often come with a word limit.
- Blogs and SEO. Pair the keyword table with a clear page title and description.
- Job applications. Keep your cover letter short enough to be read in about a minute.
Need a tighter limit? Use the character counter for captions and bios, fix capital letters with the case converter, or write your application with the cover letter generator.
Frequently asked questions
Does this word counter work for Hindi?
Yes. Hindi words are counted correctly, and the Hindi full stop is treated as the end of a sentence. Mixed Hindi and English text works too.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. The counting happens in your browser, so your text stays on your device.
Why does my count differ a little from Microsoft Word?
Tools treat hyphens, numbers and symbols in slightly different ways. Here a hyphenated word such as well-known counts as one word.
Is this tool free?
Yes. You enter your name and WhatsApp number once when you see your first result, and all other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
