Character Counter: Check Any Text Against Its Limit

Count characters and see how much room you have left on each platform.

  • 🔢 With and without spaces
  • 💬 SMS parts
  • 📏 Platform limits

How to use the Character Counter

  1. 1. Paste your textAdd your caption, bio, title or message.
  2. 2. Count itPress the button to see all the counts.
  3. 3. Trim to fitEdit your text and watch the limits update as you type.

Characters with spaces, without spaces and visible letters

Most platforms count every character, including spaces and line breaks, so the main number here includes them. The count without spaces is useful for forms and exam answers that ask for it.

Hindi needs one extra number. A letter such as क्षि looks like a single letter on screen, but it is stored as several characters. The visible letters figure counts what your eye sees, while the main number counts what most software counts. If a form rejects your Hindi text as too long, this difference is usually why.

Why one SMS can cost you more than one credit

A plain English SMS holds 160 characters. Longer messages are split into parts of 153 characters each, because a few characters in every part are used to join them back together. Once your message contains Hindi or some special symbols, it switches to Unicode, which holds only 70 characters, or 67 per part in a longer message.

Bulk SMS services usually bill by the part, so one Hindi word in an English message can change your cost. The tool shows the number of parts and the encoding it detected. Your provider may still count a little differently.

Limits this tool checks

  • SEO title: about 60 characters is a safe guide.
  • Meta description: about 160 characters.
  • X post: 280 characters on a standard account.
  • Instagram caption: 2,200 characters.
  • LinkedIn post: 3,000 characters.

Platforms can change these limits, so treat them as guides. For longer writing, use the word counter, and tidy your capital letters with the case converter.

Frequently asked questions

Are spaces counted as characters?

Yes, in the main count. The tool also shows a separate count without spaces.

Why does an emoji sometimes count as two?

Some systems store an emoji as two units. This tool counts one emoji symbol as one character, but a platform may count it differently.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything is counted in your browser.

Is this tool free?

Yes. You enter your name and WhatsApp number once when you see your first result, and all other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
