What is Software Testing?

Software testing means demonstrating, with evidence, that an application behaves as passengers, staff and the business expect, and catching every place it does not before it reaches them. Think of the app that sells seats on intercity buses out of Thampanoor. A tester checks that a seat already sold cannot be sold again, that ladies-reserved seats are offered only to female passengers, that a cancellation refund follows the time-based slab, that a bus marked as departed disappears from search, and that the app does not freeze on a Friday evening before Onam when half the state is heading home.

Behind those checks sits a habit. Ask where a failure would hurt passengers or revenue most. Write the case so anyone could run it. Execute it manually or as code. Record each failure with a screenshot, the data and the exact steps so the developer can fix it once, then confirm the fix. That happens from single functions up through integration and system level to the passenger's acceptance, and it looks at speed under load, security, accessibility and different phones as well as features. Agile teams test in each sprint, with automated suites rerunning on every change.

Types of Software Testing You Will Practise

The testing types taught, and the module where you practise each, are set out below.

Functional testing

Features behave as the requirement states

Modules 1–2

Smoke & sanity testing

A new build is stable enough for deeper testing

Module 2

Regression testing

Recent changes have not broken existing features

Modules 2, 6, 7

Cross-browser testing

Consistent behaviour across Chrome, Firefox, Edge and WebKit

Modules 6–7

Database testing

Stored and returned data is correct

Module 4

API & integration testing

Services exchange data correctly

Modules 8–9

Exploratory testing

Unexpected behaviour scripts would miss

Module 2 and capstone

What Does a Software Tester (QA Engineer) Do?

A Technopark QA engineer's week, whether in a services firm, a product company or a startup in Phase III, generally includes discussing user stories, preparing cases and data, putting fresh builds through their paces, recording defects in Jira with evidence, and verifying fixes. Automation-focused testers also look after suites, extend API coverage and investigate Jenkins failures. Event and travel platforms add peak-load testing on Friday evenings and festival weeks.

Manual Testing vs Automation Testing vs API Testing

Technopark recruiters increasingly look for people who combine all three. Here is the distinction.

Course Overview — Who Should Join?

Half a year long: 13 modules, 165+ hours, 100+ live sessions. First you learn how testing works, how to design manual tests, how Agile teams operate and how to use SQL. Programming in Python or Java follows, with Selenium and Playwright pointed at real browsers. Next comes API testing by hand and in code, two modules on Gen AI for testers, and a framework tied into CI/CD. The final 20 hours are a capstone.

  • Students and fresh graduates of CET, Mar Baselios, Kerala University colleges and other engineering, computer-applications, science and commerce programmes in the capital.
  • Manual testers at Technopark or Technocity who need automation and API experience to move up.
  • People in government service support, cooperative banking, tourism or healthcare administration who want to move into QA.
  • Learners in Kollam, Attingal, Nedumangad, Varkala or Nagercoil who want live classes without commuting.
  • Developers who would like testing taught as a discipline, not a list of tools.

On completing the program you will be able to:

  • Break down a requirement into test scenarios, step-by-step cases and data, edge values and wrong inputs included.
  • Confirm database contents with SQL and file defects precise enough that nobody has to ask how to reproduce them.
  • Create Selenium or Playwright suites and execute them on multiple browsers.
  • Explore APIs with Postman and convert those checks into automated, data-driven tests.
  • Apply AI tools with care and have Jenkins run your suite with Allure dashboards.

Eligibility: a degree in any subject, or the final year of one; no programming background is assumed. Lab sessions work best on a laptop with 8 GB RAM or more and a reliable connection, with a backup hotspot for monsoon days.

Software Testing Course Syllabus in Trivandrum

There are thirteen modules across the 165 hours. They follow the shape of a QA career: careful manual work first, then SQL checks, UI automation, API testing, AI assistance and finally a CI pipeline. Every module ends with practical tasks, and the last one is a full QA engagement on the bus-booking app.

Phase 1 · Think like a tester
1Software Testing Fundamentals & SDLC/STLC10 Hours

Module 1 starts at a Thampanoor bus bay: a passenger holds a valid ticket for a seat someone else is already sitting in. How did the software let that happen, and who should have caught it? From that story you study why testing exists, its seven principles, how an error in code becomes a defect and then a visible failure, the Waterfall, V-Model and Agile approaches, and how the STLC lines up with the four levels of testing.

Key tools: —
2Manual Testing, Test Cases & Bug Reporting12 Hours

Seat booking becomes the design exercise. Journey dates, passenger counts and departure cut-offs set the boundaries; bus classes (ordinary, fast passenger, AC sleeper) form equivalence classes; refund and concession rules go into a decision table; and a ticket's path from held to booked, boarded, cancelled or refunded becomes a state diagram. You then test in rounds, exploratory first and then smoke, sanity and regression, recording each real bug with severity and priority.

Key tools: Jira
3Agile, Scrum & Test Management8 Hours

The tester's place in a Scrum team: planning, stand-ups, sprint review and retrospective, where a story is finished only when it satisfies its acceptance criteria and the team's Definition of Done. You build the app's Jira project (board, workflow, saved filters, dashboard) and plan testing around what would strand a passenger.

Key tools: Jira
4SQL & Database Testing10 Hours

Database checks on a routes, buses, seats and bookings schema: keys and constraints, then filtering, ordering, grouping, joining and subqueries. Every query has a job, either seeding realistic data or proving that a booking, its payment and any refund were recorded correctly.

Key tools: SQL
Phase 2 · Code and automate
5Programming Fundamentals with Python or Java15 Hours

A first programming language, Python or Java, taught from nothing: variables, if-else, loops, functions, classes, inheritance and exception handling. The module ends with a helper that reads trips and passengers from data files, letting one test check dozens of bookings.

Key tools: Python, Java
6Selenium WebDriver & Automation Fundamentals15 Hours

Selenium WebDriver drives the booking website. You locate elements with IDs, CSS selectors and XPath, wait for them properly, cope with pop-ups, iframes, new tabs, seat-map grids and date pickers, then organise everything with PyTest or TestNG for cross-browser runs.

Key tools: Selenium, PyTest/TestNG
7Playwright Automation with JavaScript/TypeScript15 Hours

TypeScript basics, then Playwright: locators that read like the screen a passenger sees, assertions with automatic waiting, fixtures, a stored login, a payment gateway that you deliberately make time out, ID uploads for concession tickets, parallel workers and failures traced step by step.

Key tools: Playwright, JavaScript/TypeScript
8API Testing with Postman & REST APIs12 Hours

How the booking API works: HTTP verbs, URLs, request headers, response codes and JSON payloads. Postman lets you group requests, switch environments, log in with tokens and validate every response against its schema.

Key tools: Postman, REST APIs
9API Automation & Integration Testing12 Hours

API tests in code: assertions on each response, a PNR handed from one call to the next, token renewal and request bodies taken from data files. Integration tests then push a booking through the API, a fake payment service and the database together, scheduled with the browser suite.

Key tools: REST APIs, PyTest/TestNG
Phase 3 · Work smarter, ship a capstone
10GenAI for Test Case Generation & Test Data10 Hours

Gen AI meets a new festival-surcharge rule. You ask the model which situations it creates and which edge cases deserve tests, get it to invent sample passengers, then go through the answer critically for what it missed or got wrong, and learn why real passenger data never goes into a public AI tool.

Key tools: ChatGPT
11AI-Assisted Automation, Debugging & Test Maintenance12 Hours

Writing automation with ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot beside you: first-draft tests, refactors, explanations of someone else's code, help with stack traces and fixes for unreliable locators. You run and check every suggestion before keeping it.

Key tools: GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT
12Framework Design, Git, CI/CD & Test Reporting14 Hours

Turning scripts into a framework: page objects, test data separated from code, branches and pull requests in Git, a Jenkins job on every push and Allure pages the whole team can read.

Key tools: Git, GitHub, Jenkins, Allure Reports
13End-to-End Testing Project & Capstone20 Hours

Capstone. You run a full QA engagement on the bus-booking app, from the written plan and executed cases to UI and API automation and a GitHub-triggered Jenkins pipeline, then get job-ready with a refreshed CV and LinkedIn, a portfolio demo and mock panels.

Get Your Software Testing Certification in Trivandrum

Once you finish the modules, assignments and capstone, Uncodemy awards its Software Testing Program Certificate, stating the course name, its length, the tools you learned and when you completed it. A Technopark recruiter, or anyone else, can confirm it by entering the ID at certificate.uncodemy.com.

Learning online gets you the same certificate as a classroom learner. Since hiring managers usually ask to see work, your GitHub will hold the bus app's test cases, an automation framework, API checks and a CI job that passes.

✓ Program Completion — records completion of the full course✓ Online Verification — carries an ID checkable on our website✓ Practical Proof — supported by public GitHub projects

Is the Course ISTQB Aligned?

ISTQB does not issue this certificate; Uncodemy does. Many Technopark employers value ISTQB, though, and the principles, levels, design techniques and defect handling taught in Modules 1 and 2 follow its Foundation Level syllabus closely, so sitting that exam later on your own becomes much easier.

Introducing Uncodemy

Uncodemy Edutech Pvt. Ltd. has trained IT professionals for more than 14 years and counts over 54,000 learners among its alumni. For a learner in Thiruvananthapuram, the classroom is the live stream of batches taught in our Noida (Sector 1) and Delhi (Shakarpur Extension) rooms. The course trains the actual work of QA: work out what users truly need, devise checks that uncover real defects, automate selectively and explain findings simply.

Our placement eligibility conditions explain precisely what the placement team does; reading them before you enrol avoids surprises.

  • Portfolio review: Project reviews with your trainer until your repositories hold up under a Technopark technical round.
  • Resume & LinkedIn: A CV and LinkedIn that lead with testing outcomes rather than a list of duties.
  • Interview preparation: Practice on the questions Trivandrum panels tend to ask: design-a-test, SQL, framework architecture and API edge cases.
  • Mock interviews: Mock interviews taken by trainers, each closed with written feedback.
  • Opportunity sharing: QA openings from our 850+ hiring partners in Trivandrum, Kochi, Bengaluru or remote are passed on as they appear.
  • Continued support: The career desk stays reachable after the final class for as long as you keep at it; a job, however, cannot be guaranteed.

How Trivandrum Learners Attend

An evening for a Trivandrum learner might go like this: log in from Sreekaryam after work, ask the trainer why a locator keeps failing, share your screen so the fix is visible to everyone, then submit the assignment on the portal used by every Uncodemy batch. Stuck in traffic on the bypass? The recording will be up later. Visiting NCR? Ask your counsellor and you can spend a day in the Noida or Delhi classroom.

What a Typical Week Looks Like in Your Batch

Choose weekday classes of about an hour each, or a weekend timetable with two longer sittings. Most weeks bring explanation and demo sessions, a hands-on lab where your trainer looks over your work as you go and a period kept free for doubts. Once coding starts, every assignment goes to GitHub, building your portfolio as you progress, and recordings are posted the same day.

Other Courses for Learners in Trivandrum

Trivandrum learners can also study online in our Automation Testing course and our Data Analytics, Data Science, Business Analyst and Full Stack Development programmes. To preview the material, look through the free manual testing syllabus or our blog's roadmap for automation testers.

Instructors

Teaching is done by QA professionals selected from Uncodemy's 30+ industry trainers and mentors. A technical verifier who does not teach your batch audits the content, and curriculum approval sits with a separate person. Each trainer's background is listed on their card.

Software Testing Jobs & Career Scope in Trivandrum

Thiruvananthapuram's QA market centres on Technopark, among the largest IT parks in the country by area, where global services companies, product firms, engineering-services providers and startups occupy multiple phases along the Kazhakkoottam corridor. Technocity at Pallippuram is extending that ecosystem northwards, and the Kinfra parks add further units. As the state capital, the city also has a large public-sector software footprint: e-governance portals, treasury and revenue systems, health and education platforms all require functional, data and security testing. The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and other research institutions bring a culture of rigorous verification, and a growing number of space-tech and deep-tech startups have followed. Cooperative banks, tourism businesses along Kovalam and Varkala, and multispeciality hospitals add domain work. The new Vizhinjam international seaport is expected to bring logistics software too. With Kerala's large pool of engineering graduates, entry-level competition is stiff, and candidates who can demonstrate automation, API testing and GitHub projects are the ones who get called back.

Remote and Hybrid QA Roles for Learners in Trivandrum

Plenty of Thiruvananthapuram testers work hybrid from Technopark or fully remote for teams in Bengaluru, Kochi, the Gulf or Europe. A live online batch rehearses that routine: video stand-ups, troubleshooting together on a shared screen, pull requests in Git and planning your own hours. Recruiters for remote roles usually open GitHub before the CV, which is where your course projects sit.

Job Roles After This Course

Graduates of the course most commonly step into the roles below. All draw on one testing core but weigh coding, tooling and domain knowledge differently.

RoleCore Tools
Software TesterJira, test case design, SQL
Manual QA EngineerJira, SQL, Postman
Automation Test EngineerSelenium, Playwright, PyTest/TestNG, Git
API Test EngineerPostman, REST APIs, API automation
Playwright / Selenium Automation EngineerPlaywright, Selenium, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java/Python
AI Software Testing EngineerChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, automation frameworks

Your first designation at Technopark is likely to be Software Tester, Manual QA Engineer or Automation Test Engineer. After roughly two to four years of building and owning automation, the typical step up is Senior QA Automation Engineer or SDET, where programming and pipeline skills decide promotions; testers on overseas accounts sometimes get onsite opportunities too.

Software Tester Salary in Trivandrum — Role-wise

QA salaries in Trivandrum generally follow the national bands below, with Technopark product companies, overseas-client teams and remote roles often towards the upper end, and automation or API skills adding more.

Entry-Level Software Tester
₹3–5 LPA
Manual QA Engineer
₹3–6 LPA

Senior QA Automation Engineer
₹12–22 LPA
SDET / Quality Engineering Lead

Consider these indicative Indian ranges, not commitments. Experience, coding depth, employer and specialisation set the real figure, and Uncodemy guarantees neither salary nor placement.

Top Hiring Sectors for Software Testers in Trivandrum

Within our 850+ company network, Trivandrum learners most often begin QA careers in:

IT services and product firms at Technopark

Delivery centres and product teams along the Kazhakkoottam corridor

Engineering services and deep-tech

Space-tech, embedded and engineering-software companies near the research centres

E-governance and public-sector software

State portals, treasury and health systems that need careful functional and security testing

Tourism, travel and transport apps

Booking platforms for buses, resorts and Ayurveda retreats along the coast

Overseas-client and remote teams

Companies serving the Gulf, Europe and the US, or hiring Kerala testers to work from home

Choose one of these as your capstone's setting, the bus-booking app or a resort-booking engine perhaps, and Technopark interviewers will engage with it straight away.

How to Become a Software Tester — Step by Step

Like the steps up to Napier Museum's terrace, each skill rests on the last. Take them in order.

  1. Learn testing fundamentals — begin with fundamentals: how development and testing life cycles fit, the levels at which software is tested and the main test types.
  2. Master manual test design — try test-design techniques on apps you already use (a bus-ticket app, a UPI wallet) and learn to raise defects in Jira that leave nothing unexplained.
  3. Learn SQL — learn SQL well enough to settle data questions yourself.
  4. Pick one programming language — stay with one language, Python or Java, until it feels natural; TypeScript joins with Playwright.
  5. Automate the UI — script the journeys customers rely on, first in Selenium, then in Playwright.
  6. Test and automate APIs — explore APIs by hand in Postman before automating any call.
  7. Use AI tools responsibly — treat AI as a quick assistant whose work you always review.
  8. Build a framework and pipeline — shape the scripts into page objects, version them in Git, have Jenkins run them and share Allure reports.
  9. Publish a portfolio and prepare — make GitHub public, refresh CV and LinkedIn, and practise interviews aloud with batchmates.

How long: about six months, given a few focused hours most days.

Is Software Testing a Good Career in 2026, with AI?

Yes, for those who keep learning. AI tools now churn out first-draft test cases and scripts quickly, so jobs that consist only of repetitive manual execution are shrinking. Technopark's employers are hiring for judgement instead: people who choose what is worth testing, automate selectively, check APIs and integrations, keep automation code clean and notice when an AI suggestion is plausible but wrong. Ownership of quality still rests with people who know the product and the passengers or customers using it, which is why this course adds AI and automation to manual skill rather than replacing it.

How This Course Compares to Other Software Testing Courses in Trivandrum

Live Online vs Classroom — Which Should a Learner in Trivandrum Choose?

Imagine a learner in Neyyattinkara who works days at a Technopark support desk. Commuting to a classroom in another state is impossible; joining a live class from home at 9 pm is easy. For learners like that, the live online batch is ideal: you are part of the class being taught in Noida and Delhi, you can speak up whenever something is unclear, and a recording is saved for later. Trainers, syllabus, projects, certificate, career help and fee are the same in every mode. A physical seat is practical only on days you are in Delhi-NCR, and switching modes when seats are free costs no hours.

Student Projects in Software Testing

Each project is modelled on a real QA assignment and lives publicly on your GitHub. Your trainer then reviews it as a Technopark lead would: what is still untested, do the assertions really protect the feature, is the code easy for a colleague to extend, is CI green, and are your setup instructions enough for a stranger?

1. What is the duration of the Software Testing course in Trivandrum?

The program runs for half a year and delivers more than 165 hours through 100+ live classes, with weekday and weekend online groups open to Trivandrum learners.

2. What is the fee for the Software Testing course in Trivandrum?

The fee is ₹20,650 including GST (₹17,500 before tax), identical to a classroom seat; if you prefer, pay ₹3,442 a month for six months*.

3. Is there an Uncodemy centre in Trivandrum?

No. Uncodemy has classrooms only in Noida and Delhi. Learners in Trivandrum attend those batches over a live link, with the same faculty, content and fee.

4. Can I learn software testing without a coding background?

Yes. The course assumes no coding at all. Modules 1 to 4 cover testing itself (basics, manual technique, Agile, SQL); coding starts at zero in Module 5.

5. Is manual testing still in demand in 2026?

Manual testing still matters, but most Technopark job descriptions now add automation and API skills. So the second half of the course is about Selenium, Playwright, coded API tests and AI-assisted QA.

6. Should I learn manual testing or automation testing first?

Manual first. An automated test is only as good as the idea behind it, so learning to design strong checks comes before learning tools.

7. Which is better to learn: Selenium or Playwright?

You learn both, 15 hours apiece. Many long-standing services-company suites at Technopark use Selenium WebDriver, while newer product teams frequently choose Playwright.

8. Does the course include API testing?

Yes. Postman and REST basics take 12 hours in Module 8, and Module 9 adds 12 more on automated API and integration tests with authentication. Booking, banking and e-governance systems all depend on APIs, so this is valuable in the capital.

9. Does the course cover Generative AI in software testing?

Yes. Gen AI helps with draft test cases and dummy data in Module 10 (10 hours), while in Module 11 (12 hours) ChatGPT and Copilot assist as you write and debug automation. You verify everything they suggest.

10. Will AI replace software testers?

Testing is being reshaped by AI, not abolished. A tool can draft a script in seconds, but a person must still understand what users need, judge whether a check is meaningful and sign off a release.

11. Is this course ISTQB certified?

No. The certificate is Uncodemy's. Much of ISTQB Foundation Level is covered in the opening modules, which helps since many Technopark firms value it, but the ISTQB exam is a separate booking.

12. What is the salary of a software tester in Trivandrum?

As a national guide, entry-level testers make roughly ₹3–5 LPA, automation engineers ₹4–8 LPA and SDETs or quality engineering leads ₹15–30 LPA. A Trivandrum package will depend on your skills, the employer and your experience; Uncodemy promises no figure.

13. Can a fresher or non-IT graduate get a software testing job in Trivandrum?

Yes. Technopark companies and remote employers hiring from Kerala regularly take freshers into QA from both IT and non-IT degrees. Expect to be asked to test something on the spot, write a query, talk through an automation tool and present your work. All of that is practised in the course; the hiring call is the company's.

14. What job roles can I apply for after this course?

On portals, filter for QA titles such as Software Tester, Manual QA Engineer, Automation Test Engineer and API Test Engineer, or jobs that mention Selenium or Playwright by name. A few years in, SDET and senior automation roles come within reach.

15. Are the classes live or recorded?

Live, every time. Each session happens at its scheduled hour with a trainer, and the recording stays online for revision.

16. Do you provide placement assistance to learners in Trivandrum?

Yes. Trivandrum learners get the same placement support classroom learners receive: CV and LinkedIn work, practice interviews, coaching and openings from 850+ partner companies. Employment itself is not guaranteed.

17. Is a free demo class available before I enrol?

Yes. Book a demo online at no cost to see a class in action and ask your questions; right now you also get two trial classes free before paying anything.

18. Can I attend at the Noida or Delhi branch if I visit NCR?

Yes. When you are in Delhi-NCR and a seat is free, you may join a class at Noida or Delhi, because every mode shares the same curriculum. Tell your counsellor ahead of time.
