How exact age is calculated
The tool counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over. It counts calendar steps rather than dividing days by 365, so leap years cannot throw it off.
Here is a worked example. Someone born on 15 January 2000 is checked on 5 November 2026. Their last birthday was 15 January 2026, which gives 26 years. From there to 15 October is 9 months. From 15 October to 5 November is 21 days.
The answer is 26 years, 9 months, 21 days, or 9,791 days in total. Their next birthday is 15 January 2027, when they turn 27.
Month ends and 29 February
Months have different lengths, so one rule is needed at month ends. When a date does not exist in a month, this tool uses the last day of that month. Someone born on 31 January reaches one month on 28 February in a normal year.
If you were born on 29 February, the tool treats 28 February as your birthday in years without that date. Some official bodies may treat 1 March as the date instead, so check if it matters for a legal purpose.
Age on a cut-off date
Government exams and school admissions often set age limits as on a fixed date. Enter that date in the second box to see your age on that day. Read the notice carefully, since limits and relaxations vary.
A date of birth later than the date you check gives an error, so you will not get a false answer.
