Average Calculator: Mean, Median, Mode and Weighted Average

Get the mean, median, mode and weighted average of any list.

  • 📋 Paste any list
  • ⚖️ Weighted average
  • 📊 Median and mode

How to use the Average Calculator

  1. 1. Enter your numbersPaste them with commas, spaces or new lines.
  2. 2. Add weights if neededGive one weight per number for a weighted average.
  3. 3. See the resultsGet the average with median, mode, sum, lowest and highest.

Mean, median and mode

  • Mean is the sum divided by the count.
  • Median is the middle value once the list is sorted. With an even count, it is the mean of the two middle values.
  • Mode is the most frequent value. A list can have several modes, or none.

Here is a worked example with 12, 15, 15, 21 and 27. The sum is 90 and the count is 5, so the mean is 18. The middle value is the median, 15. The value 15 appears twice, so the mode is also 15.

When to use a weighted average

A plain mean treats every value the same. A weighted mean lets some count more: weighted average = sum of (value × weight) ÷ sum of weights.

For example, an 80 in a class test with weight 1 and a 90 in the final with weight 3 give (80 + 270) ÷ 4 = 87.5. The plain mean would be 85.

For credits and grades, the CGPA calculator does this for you.

Mean or median?

The mean is pulled by very large or very small values. If most values are near 30,000 and one is 3,00,000, the mean rises sharply while the median barely moves. So the median often describes a skewed list better.

When you enter numbers, do not put commas inside them. Type 1000, not 1,000, because a comma splits two values.

Want to know how spread out the list is? Use the standard deviation calculator. For exam totals, try the marks percentage calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate an average?

Add all the numbers and divide by how many there are. The tool does this and also gives the median and mode.

What if no number repeats?

Then the list has no mode, and the tool shows None.

Why do I see an error about weights?

You need exactly one weight for each number, and the weights must add up to more than 0.

Is the average calculator free?

Yes. You enter your name and WhatsApp number once when you see your result, and other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
