Marks Percentage Calculator: Find Your Exam Percentage Fast

Get your exam percentage from total marks or subject by subject.

  • 📝 Total or subject wise
  • 🎯 Target marks
  • 📋 Subject table

How to use the Marks Percentage Calculator

  1. 1. Choose your methodUse total marks, or switch to subject wise.
  2. 2. Enter your marksType marks scored and the total, or one subject per line.
  3. 3. See your percentageGet your percentage and, if you set a target, the marks you need.

How to calculate percentage of marks

The formula is percentage = marks scored ÷ total marks × 100. For example, 425 out of 500 gives 425 ÷ 500 × 100 = 85.00%.

For several subjects, add all marks scored and add all total marks, then divide. Do not average the subject percentages if the subjects have different totals. A 50-mark paper should not count the same as a 100-mark paper.

Here is a subject-wise example. Maths 78/100, Science 85/100 and English 72/100 add up to 235 out of 300. That gives 78.33%.

Using the subject-wise box and target

Write one subject per line, like Maths 78/100. You can also write 45 out of 50. The name is optional, and decimals such as 37.5/50 work too.

The target box shows the marks you need. For 90% of 500, you need 450 marks. If you already have 425, that is 25 more. The tool rounds the needed marks up, because a score just below the target does not reach it.

Boards often have their own rules, such as best-of-five subjects. If yours does, enter only the subjects that count.

Next steps

If your institution uses CGPA, try percentage to CGPA. For grades with credits, use the CGPA calculator. For a plain average of test scores, use the average calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate percentage from marks?

Divide your marks by the total and multiply by 100. For example, 425 ÷ 500 × 100 = 85%.

Can I average my subject percentages?

Only when every subject has the same total. Otherwise, add the marks and totals first.

Why does the tool say marks cannot exceed the total?

A score above the total is usually a typing error, so the tool stops and asks you to check it.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. You enter your name and WhatsApp number once, at result time, and other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
