How the reverse conversion works
Going from percentage to CGPA simply reverses a CGPA rule. If the rule is percentage = CGPA × m − s, then CGPA = (percentage + s) ÷ m. Here m is the multiplier and s is the number subtracted.
Here is a worked example for 76%:
- CBSE rule: 76 ÷ 9.5 = 8.00.
- (CGPA × 10) − 7.5 preset: (76 + 7.5) ÷ 10 = 8.35.
- CGPA × 10: 76 ÷ 10 = 7.60.
The same marks give three different scores, so the rule you pick matters.
Limits of this conversion
Universities differ, so this is an estimate. Check your institution's official rule before you use the number on an application.
A real CGPA comes from grades and credits, not from one overall percentage. Two students with the same percentage can hold different CGPAs. If you know your subject grades, the CGPA calculator gives a truer figure.
Some high percentages give more than 10 under a rule. For example, 98 ÷ 9.5 is above 10. The tool caps the result at 10 and tells you when it does.
