Retirement Calculator: How Much Do You Really Need?

Work out your retirement corpus and the monthly SIP to reach it.

  • 🎯 Corpus target
  • 💰 Monthly SIP needed
  • 🌡️ Inflation built in

How to use the Retirement Calculator

  1. 1. Enter your agesAdd your age now, retirement age and the age to plan up to.
  2. 2. Add your numbersEnter monthly expenses, savings, inflation and returns.
  3. 3. See your planGet your corpus target, your gap and the SIP to fill it.

How the plan is built, step by step

Four steps give you the answer.

  1. Future expenses. Today's monthly spend × (1 + inflation)^years to retirement.
  2. Corpus needed. The sum that pays those expenses each month until your plan age. Expenses rise with inflation once a year, while the balance keeps earning the after-retirement return.
  3. Your savings. Current savings grown to your retirement date.
  4. Monthly SIP. The SIP that fills the gap between the two.

Assumptions used here: monthly compounding at (1 + r/12) on both sides, with SIPs and withdrawals at the start of the month (annuity-due).

A worked example

You are 30, you plan to retire at 60, and you want money to last till 85. You spend ₹40,000 a month and have ₹2,00,000 saved. Assume 6% inflation, 11% before retirement and 7% after.

In 30 years, your ₹40,000 lifestyle costs ₹2,29,740 a month. To fund 25 years of that, rising each year, you need ₹5,83,41,020 at 60. Your ₹2,00,000 could grow to ₹53,41,620, leaving a gap of ₹5,29,99,401. A SIP of ₹18,726 a month for 30 years closes that gap.

The table in your result shows the corpus falling year by year and reaching zero at 85.

Make the plan stronger

  • Start early. Change your age to 40 in the tool and watch the SIP jump.
  • Test your returns. They are assumptions, not promises. Try lower numbers.
  • Plan long. People often live longer than expected, so plan for a later age.
  • Count health costs. Medical bills can grow faster than other spending.

A SIP that never rises is the hardest way. Use the step-up SIP calculator to reach the same target with a smaller start. Check the withdrawal side with the SWP calculator. For safe long-term parts of your plan, see the PPF calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the corpus number so large?

Thirty years of inflation raises your expenses a lot, and the money has to last many years after that. Lower your plan age or expenses in the tool to see how each one changes the target.

Should I include my EPF and PPF?

Yes. Add them to Savings so far, using today's balance. The tool grows that sum at your before-retirement return, so use a return that suits your overall mix.

What if my savings already cover the target?

The tool shows a SIP of ₹0 and how much extra you are likely to have. Try cautious returns before relying on that.

Is the retirement calculator free?

Yes. You enter your name and WhatsApp number once to see your result, and all other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
