How to use the Countdown Timer

Two ways to count down
Set a duration when you know how long something should take, such as a 45 minute mock paper, a 10 minute talk or a 5 minute tea break. Use the quick buttons or type your own hours, minutes and seconds. You can pause and resume this type of timer whenever you need to.
Count to a date when you have a fixed moment in mind, such as an exam start, a results announcement or a product launch. Pick the date and time, and the timer shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds left. As this timer is fixed to a real moment, it has no pause.
Using a timer for exam practice
Timing yourself is one of the simplest ways to prepare for competitive exams and placement tests. Knowing a topic is not enough if you cannot finish in time.
- Set a timer for one section and try to finish without stopping it.
- Divide the total time by the number of questions to get a target for each question.
- Keep a little time at the end to review marked questions.
- Note where you ran out of time, and practise those topics next.

Good to know
The timer tracks real clock time, so it stays correct if you switch tabs. The time left also appears in your browser tab. Sound needs your device volume to be on, and the timer needs the page to stay open and your device to stay awake. If your phone locks or the page closes, a date countdown shows the right time again once you start it, but a duration timer has to be set again.
