How to use the Password Strength Checker
- 1. Type a passwordIt is checked only in your browser. A similar test password works too.
- 2. Check strengthSee the rating, the weak patterns and the crack time estimates.
- 3. Improve itMake it longer, remove the patterns and keep it unique.
Your password never leaves this page
The check runs fully in your browser. Your password is not sent to Uncodemy, not stored and not written to any log. The name and number form at result time collects only those contact details, and the password is not included. For extra safety, you can test a password that is similar to your real one, with the same style and length.
How the check works
A simple meter only looks at length and character types, and would call Password@123 strong. Attackers do not guess randomly, so this tool looks for what they try first:
- Well-known passwords such as 123456 and qwerty123, including versions like P@ssw0rd.
- Common words and names, including popular Indian names and cities.
- Keyboard patterns such as asdf, and sequences such as abc or 123.
- Repeated characters, years, dates and numbers that look like Indian mobile numbers.
Each pattern counts for far less than random characters would. The result is shown in bits of entropy, which measure how many guesses are needed. Every extra bit doubles the work for an attacker.
Reading the crack time estimates
Crack times are estimates, based on the guess rates shown next to each one. A login page that limits attempts is far slower to attack than a stolen database, and the strength of the hash a website uses also changes the answer greatly. We show three rates: 100 guesses an hour, 10 thousand a second and 10 billion a second. These are assumptions for comparison and not measurements of any real attacker.
No estimate helps if a password has already leaked. A leaked password can be tried instantly, however long it is. Use a new one for every account, and create strong ones with the password generator.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to type my real password here?
The check runs in your browser and nothing is sent. Even so, the safest habit is never to type real passwords into websites you do not need to, so a similar test password is a fine choice.
What is password entropy?
It estimates how hard a password is to guess, measured in bits. Higher is better. Patterns and common words lower it a lot.
Are the crack times exact?
No. They are estimates based on assumed guess rates. Real attacks vary with the tools used and how the website stores passwords.
Does this check if my password was leaked?
No. It looks for patterns and a short list of common passwords. It does not check leaked password databases.
Is this tool free?
Yes. You enter your name and WhatsApp number once when you see your first result, and all other Uncodemy tools then open without the form. Your password is not part of that form.
