How to use the Image Compressor
- 1. Add imagesPick up to 20 images, or drop them on the box.
- 2. Set your targetUse the quality slider or type a size in KB.
- 3. DownloadSee the savings for each file and save them.
How the compression works
Your browser redraws each image and saves it at the quality you set. JPG and WEBP drop fine detail that the eye barely notices, so file size falls quickly. Around 70 to 80 percent quality is usually a good balance for photos.
Type a target size and the tool tries several quality levels to find the best one under that limit. Set a max width as well, since reducing dimensions saves far more than lowering quality alone. A 4000-pixel photo rarely needs to be that wide on a website.
If a file cannot get smaller in its own format, we keep the original and say so, rather than hand you a bigger file.
Limits, and which format to choose
- Photos: JPG or WEBP. WEBP is usually the smallest.
- PNG: stays lossless, so it may not shrink at all. Pick JPG or WEBP for a real saving, keeping in mind that JPG has no transparency.
- Target KB: applies to JPG and WEBP only.
Each save loses a little detail, so compress from your original, not from an already-compressed copy. Need exact dimensions? Use the image resizer. For exam uploads with both pixel and KB rules, use the photo and signature resizer. For a PDF, try Compress PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression happens in your browser, so your images stay on your device.
Why did my PNG not get smaller?
PNG is lossless, so saving it again rarely helps. Choose JPG or WEBP under Save as.
Can I compress an image to exactly 100 KB?
You can set 100 KB as the target and get a file just under it. Very detailed images may also need a smaller max width.
Is it free?
Yes. We ask for your name and WhatsApp number once at result time. Other Uncodemy tools then open without the form.
