Keeping the shape right
With Keep original proportions ticked, you set the width and the height follows, so nothing looks stretched. In a batch, each image keeps its own shape at that width.
Untick it to force an exact size, then choose what happens when the shape differs:
- Crop to fill cuts the edges evenly. It suits profile pictures and banners.
- Fit inside, white bars keeps the whole picture and fills the gap with white.
- Stretch to fit changes the shape, so faces and logos can look wrong.
Percentage mode is the simplest option: 50 percent halves both width and height.
Useful things to know
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it larger cannot add real detail, so a small image enlarged a lot will look soft. Resizing changes pixel dimensions, and that usually lowers file size too.
Social platforms change their recommended sizes from time to time, so check the platform's help page before a campaign. You can save in the same format, or switch to JPG, PNG or WEBP. Transparent areas turn white in JPG.
If your limit is in KB, use the image compressor. Exam form with both pixel and KB rules? The photo and signature resizer handles both at once. For a printed photo, use the passport size photo maker.
