How to use the Passport Size Photo Maker

What you get
The tool makes three files from one crop:
- Single photo: a JPG of 413 × 531 pixels, which is 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI.
- 6×4 inch sheet: 8 photos with thin cut lines, for a regular photo print at any shop.
- A4 PDF: 8 photos at true size, for a home printer. Print at 100 percent or Actual size, not Fit to page.
Take the photo facing a plain light wall, in even daylight, looking straight at the camera with a neutral expression. Keep your shoulders in the frame and your whole face in the oval. The oval is a framing guide only, and it does not appear in your files.
The white background option, and its limits
Tick Make a plain background white and the tool spreads out from the top and side edges, turning similar colours white. Move the sensitivity slider until the wall is clean and your hair and clothes are untouched.
This works well on plain walls. It is not smart background removal, so a busy room, or clothes or hair close to the wall colour, will not come out cleanly. In that case, retake the photo against a light wall.
Rules for photos change and differ by office, so check the current requirements of the office you are applying to. This tool does not confirm that a photo will be accepted. For exam form uploads in KB, use the photo and signature resizer. For other sizes, try the image resizer.
