Report View Options

Power BI provides several distinct views, each suited to a different stage of building or consuming a report.

Views in Power BI Desktop

  • Report view - the main canvas for building pages and adding visuals.
  • Data view - inspects the raw rows of every table currently loaded into the model.
  • Model view - shows tables and the relationships between them in a diagram layout.

Views in the Power BI Service

  • Reading view - the default, read-only way a viewer interacts with a published report.
  • Editing view - available to owners/editors to change visuals directly in the browser.
  • Focus mode - expands a single visual to fill the screen for closer analysis.

Mobile Layout View

A separate mobile canvas lets report authors rearrange visuals into a phone-friendly, single-column layout without affecting the desktop version.

Switching to Data view is often the fastest way to confirm that a transformation step in Power Query actually did what was intended, before it shows up wrong in a visual.
