Artifact 6: Monitoring Sprint Progress
Sprint Burndown Chart
The most common tool for tracking Sprint progress is the Sprint Burndown Chart, which plots remaining work (in hours or story points) against the days remaining in the Sprint.
How Teams Use It
- A downward-trending line shows the team is on pace to complete the Sprint Backlog.
- A flat or rising line signals a risk that the Sprint Goal may not be met, prompting a conversation at the Daily Scrum.
Other Tools
Many teams also track progress visually using a task/Sprint board (To Do, In Progress, Done) alongside or instead of a burndown chart, giving an at-a-glance view of where each backlog item stands.
