Scrum Artifacts

Overview

Scrum defines a small set of artifacts designed to maximize transparency of key information, so that everyone inspecting them has the same understanding of the work and its status.

The Three Core Artifacts

• Product Backlog: the single, ordered list of everything that might be needed in the product.
• Sprint Backlog: the set of Product Backlog items selected for the current Sprint, plus the plan for delivering them.
• Increment: the sum of all completed Product Backlog items during a Sprint, combined with all previous increments.

Commitments Behind the Artifacts

Each artifact carries a "commitment" that gives it meaning: the Product Backlog has the Product Goal, the Sprint Backlog has the Sprint Goal, and the Increment has the Definition of Done—together these keep progress measurable and honest.
