Scrum Process

Overview

Scrum organizes work into a repeating cycle of Sprints, each producing a potentially shippable product increment. The process begins with a Product Backlog and flows through planning, daily execution, review, and retrospective.

The Flow of a Sprint

  • The Product Owner maintains and prioritizes the Product Backlog.
  • During Sprint Planning, the team selects backlog items they can commit to and forms the Sprint Backlog.
  • During the Sprint, the team works daily, synchronizing through the Daily Scrum.
  • At the end of the Sprint, the team demonstrates the increment at the Sprint Review.
  • The team then reflects on how it worked together at the Sprint Retrospective.
  • The cycle repeats with the next Sprint.

Why the Process Works

Because each Sprint is time-boxed and ends with a real, inspectable increment, stakeholders get frequent opportunities to give feedback, and the team gets frequent opportunities to adapt—reducing the risk of building the wrong thing.
