Event 3: Daily Scrum

Purpose

The Daily Scrum is a short, time-boxed synchronization meeting held every day of the Sprint, always at the same time and place, to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal.

Format

Time-boxed to 15 minutes, the Development Team typically discusses what was accomplished since the last meeting, what will be done before the next one, and any obstacles blocking progress. Some teams walk the Sprint board task-by-task instead of using the three-question format—Scrum allows the team to choose whichever structure works best for them.

What It is Not

The Daily Scrum is not a status report to management and it is not for solving problems in detail; deeper discussions are taken offline immediately afterward with just the people involved.

Value

It improves communication, quickly surfaces impediments, promotes fast decision-making, and eliminates the need for other status meetings.
